Venetian plaster is a decorative lime-based finish made from slaked lime putty and crushed marble dust — polished by hand into a warm, seamless surface that flat paint can't match.

Why Venetian Plaster
Natural material
Made from slaked lime putty and crushed marble dust rather than synthetic compounds.
Cures into stone
As the lime dries it absorbs CO₂ from the air and hardens back into a limestone-like surface.
Breathable
Lets walls release moisture, which helps resist mould and mildew — unlike a sealed paint film.
Hand-applied, seamless
Built up by hand in thin, overlapping layers with a trowel, leaving no visible joins or seams.
Depth and shine
Burnishing the final layers compresses the marble particles, so light reflects from beneath the surface rather than just off it.
Ages well
Unlike paint, it doesn't crack or peel with time — the surface is designed to weather and mellow gracefully over the years.

Prepare the wall
The surface is made clean, sound and level so the plaster bonds properly and the finish reads true once it's on.

Lay the base coats
The first layers go down to build an even, stable foundation across the whole wall.

Build up the layers
Further thin layers are added by hand, one at a time — this is what gives the finish its depth and character.

Compress as you go
Each layer is compressed with the trowel while it's applied, which is what fuses everything into one seamless surface with no visible joins.

Polish the final coat
The last pass burnishes the surface to whichever level of sheen that finish calls for, from soft matte to a mirror polish.

Lucido
A high-polish, mirror-like finish. Fine marble grains are burnished with a steel trowel until the surface reflects light like polished stone.
Marmorino
A lime-based finish rooted in ancient Roman plastering. Depending on the troweling technique, it ranges from a soft matte stone look to a satin, semi-polished sheen.
Travertine
Applied with a dragged, textured technique that recreates the natural pitted look of travertine stone.
Concrete
A raw, industrial lime finish with the flat, matte character of poured concrete — popular in modern interiors.
Decorative Paints
Metallic and pearlescent finishes, including gold and silver quartz effects, for a subtler decorative accent than a full plaster finish.
